The Hilton Flag to Fly Over the Newly Renamed
Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, FL – May 6, 2003 – Celebrating its third anniversary, the successful Doubletree University of Florida Hotel and Conference Center will raise the Hilton flag and be renamed as the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, Gainesville.
“ We are certainly excited to bring the Hilton name to the city of Gainesville. Just as the University of Florida has a long reputation for being known as one of the finest educational institutions in the country, the name Hilton is synonymous with the word hotel to millions of people around the world,” said Wende Blumberg, General Manager of the complex since its conception in 1999. “ To be able to combine these names to represent our hotel -- the Hilton University of Florida Gainesville -- is truly an honor.”
Located on the grounds of the University of Florida Gainesville campus, the $34 million facility serves as a hospitality hub offering excellent accommodations, amenities and service as well as state-of–the-art meeting and special event facilities. While the property serves both university-related business and the local community, its close proximity to many regional markets also make it a convention and meeting destination for national corporate businesses and association organizations.
“ The change from Doubletree to Hilton was a business decision made by our hotel owners, who own both Doubletree and Hilton Hotels. The best thing is that we are still part of the Hilton Family of Hotels, which means our most loyal Hilton HHonors guests will still continue to receive Points & Miles in the same fashion as they have on previous visits to our hotel. The name may have changed, but the faces and great service behind them remain the same.” said Blumberg, who is a past president of the Independent Association of Conferences & Conventions.
The property is owned by Cornerstone Advisors Real Estate on behalf of
Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company and managed by DT Management, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hilton Hotels Corporation. Hilton Hotels Corporation currently manages several hotels affiliated with and located on the campuses of some of the nation's most prestigious colleges and universities, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Pennsylvania, Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis and Virginia Tech University.
Hilton Hotels Corporation is recognized internationally as a pre-eminent hospitality company. The company develops, owns, manages or franchises 1,800 hotels, resorts and vacation ownership properties. Its portfolio includes many of the world's best known and most highly regarded hotel brands, including Hilton®, Doubletree®, Embassy Suites®, Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Hilton Garden Inn®, Homewood Suites® by Hilton, and Conrad International®.
